So, as the summer progressed I still couldn't grasp the reality of the situation. I went about my life like I would stay at my old school, with my old friends, have my old room in the house I grew up in. I don't suggest doing this, I think if I were to have kept my mind in a moving mindset, the actual moving day would have been easier. Preparing yourself is the key.
Ok, so I guess to get this started I will introduce myself. My name is Rachael, I'm 18, and a senior and Shaker Heights High School. In fact, the reason this blog has begun, is due to my senior project, affiliated with the high school. I had lived in a small town in Wisconsin before relocating to Shaker in the summer of 2006, which is basically when my story of transition began. It was June 2006, I had just finished my sophomore year of high school, and was soon heading into the biggest year yet. Junior year is piled high with the beginning of college pressure, SAT's, ACT's, prep classes, and so on. However, it was summer and I wasn't going to let that thought ruin it for me. Little did I know that wouldn't be the worst of my concerns. My sister came home to visit and she and I were talking, when something slipped passed her lips, that obviously wasn't supposed to. "Yah, well since dad has interviews in Colorado and Ohio....", her eyes widened and she said, don't tell mom and dad I said anything to you about it. Frankly, I was too stunned to even think of saying anything to my parents. It was weeks later, before the topic was brought up again. My parents sat me down to explain my dad was given both jobs, and we would move by the end of the summer. The fact I was hearing it directly from my parents made it harder than when my sister had said it. I went and sat alone and just cried. The only thing I felt I could do was isolate myself, I felt like my parents were betraying me, so I didn't have them, and I figured I would be separated from my friends within months, so I would have to learn to live without their support.
